When the cold, damp, grey air of Winter hit Paris, the Hemingways would head to Switzerland or Austria for the dry cold air, the skiing, and a roaring fire in the lodge.
These photos are from Schruns, Austria, taken in 1925. Ernest, Hadley, and Bumby.
Vim and Vigor. Bumby was the only son I didn't get to meet.

ReplyDeleteI bet skiing was pretty reasonable back then...lift tickets now are 65.00-95.00 dollars a day to ski or snow board!Not including equipment or fashion wear;0)

It's too cold to ski! They do like happy, don't they? My grandparents had very similar ski equipment, we used to climb the hill behind their farm and ski down. . .our own private Austria!
