In "A Moveable Feast", Hemingway called it, "that wonderful crowded market street which led into the Place Contrescarpe."

Believe it or not, Paul, the only thing that changed is the fashion! The buildings, the food stalls and the roaming dogs are still there ;-)

What a moment in time! It's so true, Paris seems to never change, just the clothes, even the faces seem to stay the same. Glad to have found you as I have a fascination and love for both Paris and the 20's too!

Amazingly, like Isabella said, the Rue looks actually the same nowadays; the difference is that I didn't notice that Papa used to shop there...

Firstly, I can assure you those are not stray dogs! Nikon is right, French love their pets too much to let them remain homeless. What you see here is very typical - French dogs are extremely well socialized and behaved, they hardly ever require a leash, they follow their masters everywhere, wait with them at street crossings and outside any grocery store they are not allowed inside of (not that many ;-)))
Secondly, I came to reminisce about my '79 Datsun 210! I made a trip from CA to NY with my Old English Sheepdog in it. Great memories along the way...

Oh, good question, Isabella. I think it was a perhaps a '79 or '80? It was pretty beat up from a lot of fender benders ( the person that I bought it from had all of the accidents). The front bumper was at about a 30 degree angle. It was wine red, 2 doors & I must have driven it to Jersey 6 to 8 times. It had 240,000 miles on it! The rear differential was not lubed when it was taken in for a lube job & that's what killed the car.
Indeed very nostalgic... Last time I was in Paris I walked that street in my "Hemingway tour". I'd love to be there now...

When I visited Paris, I used to stay about three block down from Hemingway's flat on Cardinale Lemoine. Unfortunately for me, the owners have sold their wonderful apt so I no longer walk one of Hemingway's neighborhoods when I visit. This is a wonderful photo, Nikon!!

Ah! When I visited Paris with my parents (way back in the day), we were eating outdoors at a restaurant here. While waiting for our food, I noticed a plaque... the exact wording of which I don't exactly recall, because I haven't seen it for 12 years. But we were surprised to read "Ernest Hemingway [did something here] from [19__-19__]."
....which has absolutely no impact on you nor this post, but it made me think of it. :)

"The Sun Also Rises" starts in Paris, but most of the story takes place in Spain.
