rue Mouffetard
Photos of the rue Mouffetard, a Paris street full of markets and stalls. The top photo shows the rue Mouffetard where it meets the Place Contrescarpe. The Hemingways shopped here when they lived in their apartment on rue Cardinale Lemoine.
In "A Moveable Feast", Hemingway called it, "that wonderful crowded market street which led into the Place Contrescarpe."
(It is also where Amelie shopped.)

Wow, I wonder what year this photo was taken...
Believe it or not, Paul, the only thing that changed is the fashion! The buildings, the food stalls and the roaming dogs are still there ;-)
Thanks for the visit, Isabella. I wouldn't have guessed that it is still like the "old days."
that's a neat addition from Isabella...love the bricked path.
and the stray dogs remind me of India :D
What a moment in time! It's so true, Paris seems to never change, just the clothes, even the faces seem to stay the same. Glad to have found you as I have a fascination and love for both Paris and the 20's too!
I don't think that they are strays, Elween - but I'm just guessing.
I think Parisians love dogs!
In Italy, it's cats :-)
Hi Paul, sorry again for having been a bit absent, but my week was too crowded...
Amazingly, like Isabella said, the Rue looks actually the same nowadays; the difference is that I didn't notice that Papa used to shop there...
Thanks for the comments at Blogtrotter
Enjoy a great weekend!
Gil
I bet it is just as crowded now ya
Hi Gil & Shionge - I know Gil has visited Paris frequently - have you been there, Shionge?
Firstly, I can assure you those are not stray dogs! Nikon is right, French love their pets too much to let them remain homeless. What you see here is very typical - French dogs are extremely well socialized and behaved, they hardly ever require a leash, they follow their masters everywhere, wait with them at street crossings and outside any grocery store they are not allowed inside of (not that many ;-)))
Secondly, I came to reminisce about my '79 Datsun 210! I made a trip from CA to NY with my Old English Sheepdog in it. Great memories along the way...
What year was yours?
Oh, good question, Isabella. I think it was a perhaps a '79 or '80? It was pretty beat up from a lot of fender benders ( the person that I bought it from had all of the accidents). The front bumper was at about a 30 degree angle. It was wine red, 2 doors & I must have driven it to Jersey 6 to 8 times. It had 240,000 miles on it! The rear differential was not lubed when it was taken in for a lube job & that's what killed the car.
Indeed very nostalgic... Last time I was in Paris I walked that street in my "Hemingway tour". I'd love to be there now...
Hello Carlos, evryone has been there but me lol :-)
When do you go on vacation?
As I promised you, if those lottery guys find the rigth numbers (mine) you'll go there.
LOL, thanks Carlos!
I play twice a week over here, too!
merci pour ta visite sur mon blog EDP.
j'adore le quartier de la rue Mouffetard, quartier toujours tres vivant
Thank you for your visit to my blog EDP.
I like this area of Rue Mouffetard, district still very alive
When I visited Paris, I used to stay about three block down from Hemingway's flat on Cardinale Lemoine. Unfortunately for me, the owners have sold their wonderful apt so I no longer walk one of Hemingway's neighborhoods when I visit. This is a wonderful photo, Nikon!!
Thank you Olivier, & Kate - nice of you to drop by.
I'm having computer problems so I may be a bit behind in posting.
great to find a new post up here
You're right Paul; I lost my count on Paris visits...
Now, I'll be absent for a while. Meanwhile, leave you with a somehow surprising post at Blogtrotter. Enjoy!
Wish you a great fortnight and see you by mid-February!
i don't stop dreaming of and missing paris...many thanks
Hello Nikon, I loooove your D40X, I've had it fot two and a half months now.
Nice picture, yet sort of sad. Nikon, I've not been to Paris either, so when those guys find Carlos' lottery numbers, please tell him to take me there too!! LOL
Kisses sweety
Enlarging the photo come out some nice details about clothes. Very interesting.
Hello Anni,
You can definitely come! My computer has been down for a week - I hope that everything is fine with you!
Hugs & Kisses
Hello Fabrizio! Nice to see you & thanks for the comment!
I love that book - moveable feast. An all time favorite.
Yo Paul, come over for some comfort food ;)
Hi Shionge, I saw the pics :-) Amazing!!
Hello, Nikon!
Excellent posting.
Beautiful photo.
thank you
Interesting photograph. I like the old photos too. I was just working on some from my mother's side of the family from the deep mountains of West Virginia taken ages ago.
Happy Valentine's Day.
Happy Valentine's Day Paul....any romance in the air so far for you :)
Still, have a nice day ya!
What a fantastic photo.
Hi Paul, I’m back after a short break!
Thanks for your comments at Blogtrotter
Wish you a happy Valentine’s Day!
I really like this photo and I especially was interested in what Isabella said about the dogs. Sounds for sure like my type of dog. My dog would fit in there just fine!

Guelph Daily Photo, My Photos.
I used to buy my veggies there when I lived in the Quartier Latin!
It didn´t change much since, what was that picture from?, the late 50´s?
I bet it´s you the man looking at the camera with a cigarette in his mouth on the left. ;-)
Hi 99, yes, I put the camera on a tripod & self-timer & then ran up the street! You are the first to find me out :)
I think it was in the fifties, lol.
Pat, Gil, & Lynn, thanks so much for stopping by!
I knew it!
This is beautiful. I loved the Moveable Feast and this makes it all the more realistic to visualise where he might have lived. Your blog is remarkable!
Ah! When I visited Paris with my parents (way back in the day), we were eating outdoors at a restaurant here. While waiting for our food, I noticed a plaque... the exact wording of which I don't exactly recall, because I haven't seen it for 12 years. But we were surprised to read "Ernest Hemingway [did something here] from [19__-19__]."
....which has absolutely no impact on you nor this post, but it made me think of it. :)
AND!
It's also where AME shopped!!!
EEEEEEEEEEK!
AWESOME shot Pauly! Brings back memories...hmmmmmmmmmm.....
I'm craving SALMON!
Have any?
Oh and P!?!?
MATCHES!
;)))
XOXO
PS: What's neeeeeeeeeeeeew???
Hi! Is there any story written by Hemingway that is set in Paris?
Thanks!
Hello, Agus, I love "A Moveable Feast". This blog is based on that book.
"The Sun Also Rises" starts in Paris, but most of the story takes place in Spain.
Good brief and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you seeking your information.
Hi, I'm glad that it helped you!
