Some More Cafe Life
The sidewalk cafes of Paris and the circle of friends that Hemingway met there is a central theme to "A Moveable Feast."
He did much of his most productive writing sitting in a cafe with his blue notebooks and a few pencils and a pocket knife to keep them sharp. The walk from his apartment or just a stroll through Paris to the cafe were stimulants for a good day's work.
His first published short stories were written that way and his beginning of "The Sun Also Rises" started there, too.
The painting is called "Hemingway's Paris," and is courtesy of Maranda Pleasant of Big Modern Art.

Hey I like this Hemingway's Paris and I remembered my time in Paris seeping coffee at the cafe and watching the Parisian's way of life goes by :D
Now if only we could meet in Paris Paul :)
Hmmm....so you are there chasing the volleyball ladies huh...beach volleyball ladies I bet ;)
Hi Shionge, of course the beach ones ;)
If I ever get to Paris, I hope that you are there!
Wonderful post Paul.
There is just something magical about the cafe setting...just love it!

Wonderful pictures Paul. I love those old cafes of Paris. Perhaps we can all meet there :)
Hi Kayellen, thanks for the visit!
You too, Carlos - you'd better be in Paris if I ever get there :)
Oh, if we could all meet in Paris!
Both photos are great finds, Paul. Thanks for posting them for us to enjoy!
Hi Kate, glad that you like it! It would be neat to have a get-together in Paris, wouldn't it :)

Kisses Paul. Here I am enjoying your blog. Hugssss Miss you :)
Hi Paul! First of all many thanks for your comment on my post of 08.08.08 at 08h08 at Blogtrotter, now in Kos, Greece! It was great to read you there. Second, sorry for the long delay to come here, but August was a terribly busy month, as everybody else seems to be in vacation…
Anyhow, I found sometime now to land here and enjoy another great post on Papa's Paris. Great treat!
Wish you a great weekend!
Hi Ani, thanks for the visit! kisses :)
Hi Gil, thanks for stopping by - I'll swing over to Blogtrotter & take a look.
Hi Paul!
I’ll finally get some days off this year; not much, just from Friday night (September 5th) through Monday morning (September 15th). But I don’t leave you empty hands: a beautiful beach and lots of champagne wait for you at Blogtrotter. Enjoy! ;)
Ahhh that first shot is magnifique! How a time can be captured with such dimension is incredible!
Well well, Paul!
How are you today?
We will ALWAYS have Paris.
And You-tube!!
Face Book, I am afraid I just can't handle. Amazing you found me so soon after I posted a few days ago. Actuall,y I find it incredible, from all of you. But I am not sure you read me well. You see my news? Just what I needed....NOT!
Care, strength, abraços.
Hi Paul!
Makes you wonder if we would all be writers with such a life! Ah Paris...
Karla & Karrie
I´m going to say without blushing (some big arrogance of mine you might think) that in Buenos Aires we have the same kind of cafés. Except cheaper and with palm trees included. And a whole culture of meeting around white ceramic small cups of coffee on linen table cloths.
Don´t take my word, just come and see it for yourself...
;-)
The cafe should be 'closed' by now ya ;)
Hello 99 & Shionge, good to see you :)
Hi Paul! After a short break but a long absence, I’m finally back to the blogosphere…
When will we have something new? Last night there was a documentary on Papa on TV; unfortunately arrived late, and caught only the end of it... :(
Many thanks for your comments on Blogtrotter, while I was off. It’s now still in Kos on the way to Crete! Hope you enjoy and wish you a great weekend and a nice week ahead!
I was just thinking Paul, how would Hem have reported Paris, and what we have made of it if he'd been there 10 years or so later, say 1936 the time of the Front Populaire? It had changed mood again, as did the Berlin popularised by the Isherwood/Sally Bowles view of hedonistic free-fall gave way to the Nazis. Of course, Hem was in Spain, so he must have had a clear picture of a Paris being politically polarised between extreme left and right.
Anyway, I am still alive, but still no operation, so I guess I am still D.M.W. ....a very grim joke, that. Sorry.
Cheery bye & strength
Stew
What's next?
A great week ahead...
Hey Paul,
Just flying home today from Hartford.CT

Take Care...Happy October 1st!

Hmm, think this will ever happen "Downcity"?
While there are plenty of streetside cafes in the world, the best ones must be in places that offer the incredible history such as the one shown in your first photograph. I bet Claudia has been there!!
