Vintage 1920's Paris

The top photos and paintings are of Montmartre in 1925, typical street scenes of Paris in the '20s: A narrow street in Montmartre, The Moulin Rouge, and a Montmartre street scene painted by Utrillo. Next, a photo of 1920s Paris, an uphill shot so typical of Montmartre.
Then, "The Old Book Man" looking for a bargain perhaps at the bookstalls on the banks of the Seine, where Hemingway shopped.

I suppose the books must be quite cheap. I like good books with cheap prices. that's why I love shopping for book in Payless Book Shop! ( I wonder you have this kind of book store at your place;))

Hi Elwin, thanks for stopping by.
I've never heard of Payless Books in my part of the US, anyway.

Beautiful photos of days long ago,
the black & white images are always so touching. . .how I think of him in war time, wandering around in dust & debris. . .

Love these photos! The bookstalls look very much the same today. I've purchased postcards at these stalls and brought them home to frame. Great stuff!

Great pictures, it is a shame Montmartre nowadays is one big touristtrap swarmed with, well eh tourists..
I guess we have Hemingway and Toulouse-Lautrec - and others - to blame for that :-)

Wonderful old shots like these are such gems! When do things change? I can just see Hemingway sifting through those stacks of books and papers. I wonder what goodies were in there?
